“A human being is part of a whole, called by us the ‘Universe,’ a part limited in time and space. we experiences ourselves, our thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest—a kind of optical delusion of our consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”                                                                                    --- ALBERT EINSTEIN

The Touching the Earth - Awakening the Warrior Retreat is an evocative public program offered to help our world in response to global climate change and other serious challenges. Join us in exploring how to awaken inherent wisdom to act from a deeper truth so we can redesign our lives and our entire society to become environmentally sustainable, socially just and spiritually fulfilling.

Through meditation we can develop a direct experience of our interdependence with nature and awaken a tender heart that leads to intuitive wisdom, compassion and skillful means.  By gathering in community with a clear intention, we can work together towards creating and fulfilling a new vision of enlightened society.

Enhancing upon on the successful Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream Symposium, this weekend retreat includes instruction in and practice of mindfulness awareness meditations and contemplative nature explorations interwoven with interactive discussion and powerful video content. We will fearlessly face the facts about environmental degradation, worldwide social injustice, and the lack of true spiritual focus in our world. From this place of honesty we will then begin to explore our already existing deep connection to the earth and all living beings with the aim of arousing a fresh imaginative approach to solve these problems and then to make a deep personal commitment to skillful, consistent action that makes a difference.

Designed from a wisdom perspective of indigenous cultures as well as the Buddhist inspired deep ecology work of Johanna Macy, this program uses powerful and highly produced video segments and slides to educate both the head and the heart. These serve as foundation for group processes to move people through an intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually transforming journey. With four stages of meditation instruction, deep personal reflections and guided contemplations the retreat leads one to experience our natural world as sacred and precious, demanding our immediate attention and engendering our love.  Moreover the retreat provides tools to continue to deepen and apply this throughout one's life.
